Why Resistance Matters Now More Than Ever

Let’s not sugarcoat it: democracy is under attack.

Not in some far-off, theoretical way—but right here, right now. From voter suppression to extremist legislation, from book bans to the normalization of authoritarian rhetoric, we are watching a slow erosion of rights and norms we once took for granted.

And in moments like this, resistance isn’t radical. It’s necessary.

Resistance Is How We’ve Always Moved Forward

Every freedom we have was won by people who refused to sit down and be quiet. Civil rights, women's rights, LGBTQ+ rights, labor protections—all came from resistance. Peaceful protests, walkouts, sit-ins, marches, and yes, even refusal to obey unjust laws.

Progress was never handed to us. It was demanded.

Silence Is What Authoritarians Rely On

One of the most dangerous things we can do right now is wait. Wait for someone else to speak up. Wait for things to get worse before we act. Wait to see if this is really the time to make noise.

Spoiler: it is.

When we don’t resist, injustice becomes the status quo. When we normalize cruelty, it becomes law. The longer we stay quiet, the harder it is to be heard.

Resistance Isn’t Just Protest—It’s Participation

Resistance doesn’t always look like a march. Sometimes it’s organizing your community. Sometimes it’s showing up to school board meetings. Sometimes it’s running for office. Sometimes it’s making art, telling stories, or amplifying marginalized voices.

And sometimes? It’s as simple as refusing to accept that this—this fear, this hate, this division—is normal.

Because it’s not. And it never will be.

They Want You to Feel Powerless. That’s the Point.

The truth is, power doesn’t just corrupt—it isolates. Those in power want you to feel small. Helpless. Like it’s all too big to fight. That’s how they win.

But resistance builds momentum. One voice becomes ten. Ten becomes a movement. Movements become change.

We’ve seen it before. We’ll see it again. But only if we rise.
